We are thrilled to announce that GEM Construction has been awarded the contract for the expansion of St Joseph’s Care Centre (Community Nursing Unit) in Longford, a flagship initiative under Project Ireland 2040: Prospects 2024/2025 Ireland’s Major Infrastructure Project Pipeline.
The contract signing, held yesterday, marks a significant milestone for this transformative project, supported by the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health. The development will add a 43-bed, single-storey extension to the existing care centre, increasing its capacity to 68 beds. Designed to meet the highest standards set by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), the new extension will feature private en-suite bedrooms, communal and activity spaces, and a dedicated Palliative Care bed.
Guided by the Teaglach Model of Care, the project prioritizes resident dignity, privacy, and comfort while ensuring a state-of-the-art working environment for staff. Construction is underway and is anticipated to be completed by Q1 2027.
As part of Ireland’s long-term healthcare infrastructure goals, this initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing community care and improving the quality of life for residents.
We are proud to contribute to this impactful project and are excited to bring this vision to life.
